To me using Twitter in such ways is just a waste of people’s time. The time that is spend on Twitter, which is for some people astonishingly a lot, could be used better. If they really feel like giving updates about themselves, why don’t they just call their friends or catch up. Then your time will be spend much more effectively with immediate response and interaction.

Secondly, after taking a look at the messages that people sent, I just have to feel sad for the twittering people. The messages are useless, simple and making no sense. What is it that people want to share this nonsense like ‘Eating my first Chicken Sensation’? Who cares? They should better give some qualitative messages if they insist on twittering, or better just quit with posting Tweets.

I think it is very clear what my opinion about Twitter is: It irritates me. I think it is useless and sad. And I am not even talking about the ridiculous large need for having much followers and being followed. I hope Twitter is just a hype and that the little blue bird will pass away soon.

There is an overload of icons on the bottom of every blog which make it seem like these icons are even more important than the content of the blog itself. These icons cause noise in your blog pages. If you desperately want your blog to be found by people, you should consider writing qualitative articles instead of wasting time with connecting to every single social networking bookmark site.

It becomes even worse for the people who are more or less isolated with social media but still are interested in reading blog articles. What will they think when a blog says ‘Add this to del.icio.us’? They will recognize maybe a few icons, but the most icons will seem meaningless for them. Take a criticized look at those icons to discover that they are certainly a threat to the rules of web-usability. And then remember what the web-usability specialist Steve Krug says, “Don’t make me think”. These icons will do make people think about the meaning of them and why they are always there screwing up the blog pages. 

So what bloggers need to do is to get rid of the majority of useless nonsense-making icons. They will not have any large advantage of keeping them beneath every blog post. It is better to have no more than three social bookmark icons, because then all the bookmarks will be on the same websites instead of small numbers of bookmarks spread over different websites. The large amount of icons only causes confusion, extra loading time, noise and after a while even irritation. Just get your circus of the road and try to move on with a blog with qualitative content and few bookmark icons that are really needed and wanted.

Social media is all about sharing. We want to share ourselves with the people active on the Internet. We are able to share our profile, photos, videos, comments, favorites, blogs, etc. We want to engage with the Internet and be respected and accepted by others. 

“I have uploaded new pics, please leave a comment”, is a phrase which you see at loads of the web pages of social media users. They are asking their friends and viewers to comment on their new uploaded pictures. A social media user want to be paid attention to by being commented upon, being followed, being looked at, being rated, being referred to. We want to make ourselves visible for everyone on the web, because this makes ourselves feel good. We want to see that others are seeing us!

This interaction between us and our ‘friends’ enables us to communicate. Every human has always the craving to communicate, it is part of humanity. There aren’t people who are born egoistic, we all long for communication. The social media is our new ‘modern’ tool for fulfilling this need. We want to be connected and stay connected with everything and everyone in order to communicate. The opportunities for having a conversation increases with the help of social media. 

This year of social media has led us to enter to a totally different world. We talk, ask, deliberate, criticize, appreciate, influence, point out, advice; all mediated with the social media. Once we get the hang of using social media we will ask for more. Companies are also starting with operating and advertising through social media. Social media is our future.
